At the Universidad La Salle, the research as primary function has been developed officially since the setup of the Research Center (CI-ULSA) in 1991; this center is under the management of the Direccion de Posgrado e Investigación (DPI). Nevertheless, the begining of the Center can be tracked back since 1979, when the Dirección de Posgrado proposed as one of its goals the development of research, this goal is consolidated with the creation, in 1982, of the Cómite Coordinador de Investigación (CCI).
In 1994, the ULSA begins a process of evaluation, some recomendations were developed with the goal of strenghten and improve the institution; this effort promoted a series of plans induded in the institutional development program of the ULSA. Under this context, the DPI passes through an internal process of
rebuilding its functions, programs and activities, in such a way that since 1999, the CI-ULSA is structured as the Coordinación General de Investigación (CGI); the CGI is organized in five areas with the function of coordinate the academic activities of the researchers at the University.
In this work are presented the backgroud about the development of the research at our university, the achievements in the current stage as CI-ULSA, and the structure, organization, and operation at present. Finally, the advances and the future trends for the research at the Universidad La Salle are adressed
