El objetivo de este ensayo es investigar las razones para el colapso de la República Federal Socialista de Yugoslavia y los efectos detonantes para las guerras yugoslavas. Este ensayo se enfocará principalmente en el periodo previo a la declaración de independencia tanto de Croacia como de Eslovenia en junio de 1991 y no se hará análisis de las guerras posteriores. Se analizará a la Yugoslavia que existió entre 1945 y 1991, compuesta por Eslovenia, Croacia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Vojvodina y Kosovo, no la Yugoslavia que consistió en Serbia, Montenegro, Vojvodina y Kosovo. La hipótesis de este artículo establece que la ruptura de Yugoslavia se debió a múltiples factores, los cuales son analizados por separado para que su desarrollo sea más fácil de comprender. Th e subject for this essay is investigating the reasons for the collapse of Socialist Federated Republic of Yugoslavia and the triggering effects to the Yugoslav wars. Th is essay will be mainly focusing on the time period before the declaration of independence of both Croatia and Slovenia in June 1991 and will not examine the wars further. It will be addressing the Yugoslavia that existed 1945 - 1991, consisting of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Vojvodina and Kosovo, not the Yugoslavia that consisted of Serbia, Montenegro, Vojvodina and Kosovo. Th e hypothesis of this essay is that the breakup of Yugoslavia was due to multiple factors, to which each a headline has been dedicated for an easier guidance throughout the text. Th is essay will start with a brief explanation of the key events and further focus on the aspects of political inefficiency; economic crisis; geopolitical aspects both domestically and internationally; addressing further the question of identity and its role in the breakdown of Yugoslavia; and lastly, address the role that Slobodan Milošević played in the puzzle of what triggered the gun that killed the Yugoslavia Tito had left as his legacy.
