El autoritarismo competitivo es una forma de gobierno estudiada por Levitsky y Way, surgida con el fin de la Guerra Fría, principalmente en países formados debido a esta o en países que mantenían una forma de gobierno autócrata, como Rusia. Tras el colapso soviético, Rusia logró desarrollar este tipo de régimen. Para entender el autoritarismo competitivo, es necesario definir sus características y diferencias con otros regímenes políticos. Esto será crucial para poder entender el desarrollo e interés de Rusia en la coyuntura internacional, en la economía y política de regiones circundantes a la misma, y América del Norte y Europa. Competitive authoritarianism is a new form of regime, identifi ed by Levitsky and Way. Th is form of government was created at the end of the Cold War, mostly in newly formed countries or those with a history of autocrats. Russia was one of those countries. Due to its complex history and the turbulent collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has developed this kind of regime. To understand competitive authoritarianism, it is important to know its defi ning characteristics and its diff erences with other regimes. Th is information is specially relevant due to the involvement of Russia in international aff airs as well as economic and political importance in many regions, ranging from East Asia to North
America and Western Europe.
