This paper proposes, through the study of electoral institutions, a rereading of Mexican political history in the twentieth century. It analyzes the evolution of political practices in Mexico through observation of the development of its electoral institutions: laws, authorities and political parties. This analysis intends to draw certain general lines, perhaps imperfect and not very fine, on the importance of the study of the institutions and electoral reforms in the light of the political history and as instrument of discernment on the Mexican political-electoral dynamics today. From this perspective, the analysis shows that through the historiographic study of the legal framework that gives support to the electoral institutions, the investigation of different topics can be explored and exploited such as: representation of minorities, legislative dynamics and the role of the political opposition in this, the proposals of electoral reform alternatives to the officialdom, among others; issues that we consider to be of greatest interest to the social sciences and the humanities.
