Research is a fundamental and necessary activity to promote development in any area. One of the fundamental lines of biomedical research is directed towards the generation or the development of new knowledge about the physiological and pathological functioning of organs and systems of the human being in search obtaining efficient modes of prevention, early diagnosis and appropriate treatments.
The history of medical research has been based on curiosity and good intentions of the researcher, confident in its ethical and moral judgment, however was not always so. Experiments without any ethical ground have minded to the ignorance or personal interests of the researcher where the research subject has been used without regard to their safety and respect for their human rights have been conducted. Research in human subjects requires a rigorous methodology, but also the absolute observation of ethical aspects, situation that must follow both the researcher and the evaluators of the project. Therefore, Mexican School of Medicine of La Salle University built and validated an instrument that evaluates the ethical aspects of biomedical research on human beings, called "La Salle Evaluation Instrument", instrument that has been used since 2016 and which allows to appreciate and identify each one of the areas and variables which must be considered from the ethical point of view in a research project, which added to the scrupulous methodology evaluation will enable the committees regulatory facilitate the opinion of the project of biomedical research involving human subjects.
