Turismo, sustentabilidad y certificación: un reto global

Abstract

La dinámica del crecimiento y desarrollo económico global del siglo XXI, no ha respetado los recursos que la hacen posible. Este es un problema que encierra la necesidad de comprender la situación ambiental y sus vínculos con la economía, procesos sociales, recursos naturales y modelos de desarrollo. Un sector económico en el que esta situación resulta evidente es el turismo, el cual, al mismo tiempo que promueve el desarrollo económico, consume los recursos naturales que lo soportan. La solución propuesta ante este desafío es la adopción de la sustentabilidad. El objetivo del artículo es describir algunos de los principales programas que existen para certificar la sustentabilidad de las prácticas turísticas, analizando y contrastando sus características, con la finalidad de mostrar su contribución en el logro de la armonía entre el desarrollo económico, social y el respeto al medio ambiente.

The dynamic of growth and economic global development in the XXI Century, has not respected the resources that make it possible. This problem requires understanding the environmental situation and its bonds with the economy, social processes, natural resources and development models. An economic sector in which this situation is evident is the tourism. It promotes the economic development at the same time that the natural resources are consumed. The solution proposed to deal with this challenge is the sustainability adoption. The objective of this paper is to describe some of the main programs to certify the sustainability of the tourist practices, underlining and analyzing their characteristics, in order to show how they contribute to achieve the harmony between economical and social development with full respect to the environment.
