La universidad medieval: orígenes y finalidades

Abstract

Es común encontrar en los estudios realizados sobre los orígenes de la universidad medieval diversas opiniones que poca relación tienen con su formación y finalidades institucionales. Se dice, por ejemplo, que la universidad surgió de manera espontánea, de forma natural o que fue creada por la Iglesia, por los reyes o por los señores feudales. Ninguna de estas afirmaciones es cierta porque la iniciativa fue de la nueva clase social que se forma en los burgos citadinos, que rompe con la idea trinitaria de que el Medievo era una sociedad conformada por los que oran y por los que laboran.

It is common to find in the studies carried out on the origins of the medieval university various opinions that have little to do with their formation and their institutional purposes. It is said, by the way, that the university arose spontaneously, naturally or that it was created by the Church, by kings or by feudal lords. None of these statements is true because the initiative was of the new social class that is formed in the city burghers, which breaks with the Trinitarian idea that the Medieval was a society made up of those who pray and those who work.
