El descubrimiento del Códice Sinaítico, narrado por su descubridor

Abstract

El Códice Sinaítico (representado en las ediciones críticas con la letra latina So la letra hebrea alef:א) es un manuscrito griego en forma de códice escrito en letras mayúsculas, cuyo texto se encuentra distribuido en cuatro columnas. Aunque hallado en forma fragmentaria, ha conservado casi todo texto del Antiguo Testamento y todo el Nuevo Testamento, además de otros documentos extracanónicos, como la Epístola de Bernabé y el Pastor de Hermas. De los testigos en formato de códice de la escritura bíblica, es el más completo de los textos antiguos; está fechado en el siglo IV de nuestra era. Fue descubierto en 1844 por Constantine von Tischendorf en el Monasterio de Santa Catalina, al pie del Monte Sinaí, en Egipto. A pesar de su importancia en los estudios de crítica textual y reconstrucción del texto bíblico, la historia de su descubrimiento es poco conocido. El propósito del artículo es presentar la narración del descubrimiento del Códice Sinaítico. Es la primera traducción hecha en español del texto completo, y tiene como su original en inglés el libro: When Were Our Gospels Written? An Argument by Constantine Tischendorf. With a Narrative of the Discovery of the Sinaitic Manuscript, publicado en 1866 en New York por la American Tract Society. Este texto es a su vez traducción del folleto escrito por el propio Tischendorf en alemán, bajo el título de Wann wurden unsere Euangelien verfasst? Tomando en cuenta la trascendencia del documento, en posteriores entregas se hará un estudio del mismo, con la intención de analizar y discutir su aporte a los estudios bíblicos.

The Codex Sinaiticus (represented in the critical editions with the Latin letterS or the Hebrew aleph: א) is a Greek manuscript in codex form written in capital letters, with a text arranged in four columns. Although found in fragmentary form, it preserved almost complete the text of the Old and New Testaments, and other extracanonical documents such as the Epistle of Barnabas and the Shepherd of Hermas. Of the witnesses in format codex of the biblical scripture, is the most complete ancient text, dated in the fourth century AD. It was discovered in 1844 by Constantine von Tischendorf in the Monastery of St. Catherine, at the foot of Mount Sinai in Egypt. Despite its importance in the studies of textual criticism and reconstruction of the biblical text, the story of this finding is little known. The purpose of the article is to present the narration of the discovery of the Sinaitic Codex. It is the first translation made in Spanish of the complete text, and has as its original the book in English: When Were Our Gospels Written? An Argument by Constantine Tischendorf. With a Narrative of the Discovery of the Sinaitic Manuscript, published in 1866 in New York by the American Tract Society. This text is at the same time a translation of the pamphlet written by the own Tischendorf in German, under the title of Wann wurden unsere Euangelien verfasst? Taking into account the importance of the document, in later deliveries will be a study of the same, with the intention of analyzing and discussing their contribution to Bible studies.
